We are focused on educating children and adolescents grades K-12 about the importance of sustainable management and utilization of the natural resources that exist between the coast range ridgeline and the near-ocean environment in our region.
ORREC deploys two highly successful educational platforms to support student scientific literacy: LabVenture and Vitalsigns. These interactive, inquiry-based, programs provide students year-round with an on-site facilitated science learning experience.
Students gain the opportunity to solve environmental issues presented in scenarios that require them to ask questions and test hypotheses. Their prescriptions for current, relevant resource management dilemmas result. Pre-curriculum and post-visit curriculum materials are provided to participating teachers and are supported by the center’s researchers in ORREC learning environment.
Our Fort Euchre Learning Village projects increase science literacy through real world research methods.
ORREC facilitates curriculum development based on current research projects taking place at our Fort Euchre STEM Learning Village as well as within the region.
ORREC researchers work with our staff and teaching interns to guide interactive educational programs designed to communicate their research goals. Regionally specific issues are presented for study and student involvement in solution development results.
Researcher guided experience challenges students to collaborate during the problem-solving process as they work to understand the problem at hand, collect data, reason with evidence, hone their proposed solution ideas, and reflect on what they have learned by presenting their thesis and defending their solutions to their peers.
We provide local community members with fantastic opportunities to invest their time, energy and talent to improve the lives of others, protecting their environment, and strengthening their communities.
ORREC also enhances our local communities’ relationship with tourists as well due being an appealing destination open to the public during a wide-assortment of exciting events.
Together we build an engaged local community that creates strong, informed, and productive leaders in science and civic life.
